I’m originally from South Africa, and it was in the waters around Ballito & Durban that I first learnt to bodyboard and surf. I’ve always been super active and love all things outdoors. In the back of my mind, I always knew I wanted to own an outdoors activity business somewhere warm, sunny and with perfect turquoise waters. I just didn’t know, where, how or who with.
Even though I went to school in the UK, I sort of stumbled across Newquay by accident. I’d been travelling and instructing abroad and loads of people talked about this surf town on the south coast of England. Long story short, a week’s visit to check it out turned into me still being here 16 years later! Not exactly the warm, sunny location I’d dreamt about, but the perfect place to start Cornish Wave.
I bought a Vauxhall Vivaro, a couple of swimsuits and some boards and set up as a mobile surf school in and around Newquay. Over time we began to outgrow the Vivaro, which is when Dazla, Ash, Danny and Zoe came on board. We wanted to offer inclusive and fun adventure weekends, where you could learn something new and try new experiences.
